  • Home Buying Frustration

John and I are in the process of buying a home. We actually started looking for a house the beginning of August, and we found one we liked at the end of September. Yes, it took nearly 7 weeks for us to find a home that we actually liked that was in our price range. We signed the purchase agreement Sept. 22. It seems to just drag on from there.

I'm getting frustrated with the home-buying process, but I do trust the God is in control of this. He has been since the beginning and I do believe this will be a testimony to my husband as well. A couple of examples: 1) I've told John all along that if God wanted us to have this, he'd bring us to the right house in the right price range at the right time and it would be right for the seller as well. When we found this house, we had actually been scheduled to look at another house but we didn't like it at all. The realtor said, "I've got another to show you if you have time. It just came on the market today. We looked and we loved it. It was missing a garage door. We asked the sellers to pay for the garage door as a condition of the purchase, as well as to give us a $2000 credit toward closing. The realtor told us we were asking for too many concessions for a home that had been on the market only one day, but my attitude was "if it's meant to be, it's meant to be" and if they didn't agree it wasn't meant to be. They agreed.

One of the reasons we sought out buying a house this year was the first-time homebuyers credit. The entire time we've been married, we've rented, so we qualify. But, we had a deadline to close by Nov. 30. We need the homebuyers credit to replace the money that we were going to use to pay down our toxic debt. John's been getting really worried and has been saying, "If we don't close on time then this was pointless." I told him that God knows our needs and will see to it that it happens. We may be closing at 10 p.m. on Nov. 30, but it will happen. Lo and behold, the government extends the homebuyer credit. Now we do not have to worry about the deadline at all.

    God is so good!
