RobinBoBoppin has a beautiful poem on her site today about "His Sacrifice." You should go read it.
This takes on a whole new meaning for me after seeing The Passion of the Christ. I knew Jesus had been beaten, and I knew his flesh had been chewed up by the whip. When I was in high school, my family took a trip to Necedah, Wis., where they have an Abbey. Outside of this Abbey are the stages of Christ in wonderful life-size sculpture. The stage with Christ on the cross really struck me because it was so lifelike. I cried at the pain I saw in that image. That was the first time I realized how much Jesus physically suffered for me. I was reminded of that even better when I watched The Passion and saw the metal pieces on the end of the cat-o-nine-tails rip into Jesus' skin.
